Trump is No Gore
In an election mired in Trump’s filth, the most grotesque manipulation of truth appeared last night when Trump’s trolls attempted to equate Trump’s accusation of a rigged election to what Al Gore did in the 2000 election. So let’s see. Gore won the popular vote, but the Electoral College vote came down to Florida; whoever won Florida won the race. But the Florida vote was so close that only 537 votes separated the candidates, which in Florida triggered a mandatory recount. The Bush campaign hired John Roberts to ask the Supreme Court to stop the recount and declare Bush the winner. (Yes, the same John Roberts who Bush later named to the Supreme Court and named him Chief Justice). When the Court, against its own principles of respecting States’ Rights, ruled to interfere in Florida and stop the count, Gore sacrificed his bid for the presidency for the sake of the country and offered his concession.
